Our history

The mission of CMS is in its name: The construction of special machines.

Since the beginning of its activity in 1969, the objective of the company has always been the satisfaction of its clients by manufacturing high productivity and extremely accurate machine tools. The company started building traditional machine tools with mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic drives. By 1974, CMS had built its first Machining Centre to meet the ever more pressing automation requirements of the industry. This first machining centre is still working today.

During the early years of activity, the business focussed mainly on the WOOD industry, a sector where CMS has become a world leader in CNC machining centres.

In 1980 production diversified: BREMBANA MACCHINE became the first brand of CNC machining centres for STONE. Later, the product range expanded to the EYEWEAR and PLASTICS industry, continuing later to ALUMINIUM and LIGHT ALLOYS.

Towards the end of the Nineties, our diversification process extended to the GLASS sector with the acquisition of the TECNOMETAL brand (a manufacturer of CNC machining centres and cutting tables for glass), while strengthening at the same time our presence in the PLASTICS sector with the acquisition of VILLA (a manufacturer of thermoforming machines).

At the beginning of the 2000s, our production of machines for COMPOSITE MATERIALS increased steadily and constantly, especially in the MARINE, AEROSPACE, AUTOMOTIVE, MODELS and MOULDS sectors.

At the same time, our range of GLASS solutions expanded with the acquisition of DELTAPROGETTI (flat glass systems), and the STONE range was extended with the production of GANTRY MILLING MACHINES and POLISHING MACHINES for MARBLE and GRANITE.

In 2002 the SCM Group joined CMS, providing strategic resources to further develop the international growth of the company. In 2005 CMS acquired a majority share of TECNOCUT, the first Italian manufacturer of WATERJET CUTTING SYSTEMS.

In 2006, CMS PLAST is created with the acquisition by CMS of a majority share in MASNADA MACCHINE in order to focus specifically in the PLASTICS sector.

2007 saw a major reorganization of the entire group, with the acquisition of the 25,000 square metre Levate production facilities to hold all the activities of the BREMBANA brand and a controlling share in the TECNOCUT company, gathering at the same time the whole brand system under the CMS Industries umbrella.

With the acquisition of the historic BALESTRINI brand in 2011, the company completed its SOLID WOOD range. At the same time, CMS acquired 100% control of CMS PLAST and TECNOCUT, which also became Group brands under the single CMS Industries umbrella.

In July 2015 SCM Group aquired the 100% of CMS.
